About your host
Hello my friend! It’s me, Steph Bruno-Newton; your host of the Can I Get a Refill? Podcast, former dancer, singer (taking a short pause), fairly new Mum and also your biggest cheerleader for you finding your own voice and creating the most beautiful life for yourself.
I look pretty happy in this pic, right? I think so too. But I wasn’t always this way. I’d like to think that I definitely came into this world (waaayyyy back in the good ol’ 80’s) with a fairly optimistic outlook and bright spark that craved connection with others and The Universe. But as it so often went for young women, especially back in those days, I often found myself in environments full of people trying to silence my voice. I always craved multiple forms of self expression but was brainwashed into thinking that the things that I was feeling or saying were wrong, or not what a proper young lady should be feeling or saying. Anger and frustration grew and festered inside me for many years, manifesting in all sorts of health ailments. But mostly, the external treatment I received, caused me to have low self esteem, which often resulted in me making poor choices for myself, such as picking emotionally and physically abusive romantic partners.
I supressed my voice for fear of punishment, for far too long.
As I started to find my voice, I was able to heal my trauma, make healthier choices for myself, and connect with other powerful women. ‘Can I Get a Refill?’ was birthed as an outlet for me to use my voice and encourage others to find their own.
I had the idea to create this podcast a few years ago, but I was so busy creating music and performing, as well as working a full time job, that it wasn’t until I was pregnant (which caused me some physical ailments) that I had to pause a lot of my other activities, and found myself at home with a little more time up my sleeve and all of this creative energy, looking for an outlet.
As I had to stop using my voice for singing, I was then able to use it to podcast, and create episodes full of ideas and advice to encourage you to step into the driver’s seat and make your life absolutely f*ck*ng beautiful!
I’m truly so glad that you’re here, not only to connect with me, but to be open to forms of self expression, self care and self love, in all areas of your life.
Stick with me girl, it’s gonna be a magical ride!
Steph xx
